So, it’s a been week since my first update and how far have we come? Three miniatures complete, which is actually quite impressive for me!
This week I found the 11th member of my Cultist squad and got him painted up. He smuggled himself in my carry case. Initially I had planned on using him as a Ministorum Priest for my Astra Militarum force many moons ago. After making my 500-point list, I found myself on need of an 11th Cultist and by the divine powers of Tzeentch, I found this little stowaway. You may notice I’ve also changed the base from the Necromunda style that I’ve used previously. Again, this is just following how the project evolves. I’m picturing the force fighting in a ruined city, hidden within a blizzard. Mainly because blood and snow look amazing – but this is how it started and I’m sure will continue to evolve as we move along! Now back to the Cultist.

And there he is, I think…well hope he fits the look of my other Cultists - trapped down in the dark bowels of a Night Lord ship. The pale flesh tones are something that I’ve been experimenting (and struggling) with for quite some time. However, I do believe I’ve come up with a scheme to use for now, which I created whilst painting up some heads for the Chaos Space Marine Squad.

After some experimentation, I found that the recesses were a tad too dark and I wanted to make them a little more subtle. I used some blues mixed with flesh tones to shade the recesses and I’ll do my darn best to make a tutorial for it once I’ve pushed the scheme a little further.
Next up was finishing off my Chaos Space Marine Squad. The Aspiring Champion and Heavy Weapon Marine are now complete (well a little more can be added to them in the future.) I pushed the flesh robes a little further on the Champion and I’m quite pleased with the result, although this will be changed and developed over time again, I’m sure.

I have also experimented a little more with Power Weapons. As you've probably spotted, the Aspiring Champion is abiding by the rule-of-cool with a chainglaive and power sword!
Power Weapons are definitely something I'd like to get better at and something I've learned from this one is taking my time with the layering and getting the blend and paint as smooth as possible.

There we have it, another squad all finished up just in time for the points to change once the recently unveiled 9th Edition kicks off. Who knows, maybe the points will drop enough to squeeze some more goodies in to this preliminary 500-points. I am very eager to see the Crusade format – getting some storytelling and narrative into games will be a lot of fun. High hopes to see what comes of it!

I think I’ll sneak this onto my Instagram once I’ve finished writing to give some sneak peeks and insight into my projects. What’s next you ask? Well with 9th right around the corner and not knowing how that’ll impact my list – I’ll strive on with the chosen path and get the list all finished up. So that means more Cultists inbound along the Road to Damnation!
